I see the world
In shades of black and white.
I never will forgive
The things you did to me.

There isn't a reason
That you could offer me,
To give another chance away.
No pain.

I fight a different way
I'll take your will away.
And when at last we win
I'll dance where you rest.

Dream is over and reality is crashing in.
I don't believe the world is always on my side.
Where you're going I can't tell but in my heart I see,
You just don't know it
But you're on the road to where you want to be.
You're traveling with me.

I tried to see
The world the way you do.
I'll never understand
Your simple point of view.

The color of your eyes
Will never change no matter what you do.
You can't pretend
That problems simply go away.

Don't just walk away
From things you have to do.
And listen to the voice
Inside that talks to you.

Dream is over and reality is crashing in.
I don't believe the world is always on my side.
Where you're going I can't tell but in my heart I see,
You just don't know it
But you're on the road to where you want to be.
You're traveling with me.

This song is about the way that society is moving toward a solution to its many problems, even though some people seem to feel otherwise.

Interviewer: What were you trying to do when you wrote this song?

Geoff Allan: I was still thinking about terrorism, and the way that going after the bad guys was the right thing to do. A lot of people really just wanted to hide and pretend they'd leave us alone. That strategy is foolish, it just makes them want to strike harder. They're like children, really, they just want attention.

Interviewer: Describe the feel of the song.

Geoff Allan: It's a giant freight train, pounding down the tracks. Nothing is going to slow it down or speed it up, it's moving and you either go with it or get run over. I especially like the minimalist piano track, since I tend to throw Elton-style piano all over. This was more like a U2 piano, just a few notes here and there. I was really focusing on just drums, bass, rhythm and piano so it sounded more natural.

Interviewer: Where do we want to be? Where is 'The Road' leading us?

Geoff Allan: (laughs) Well, in the picture it's leading us to the Rocky Mountains, Banff actually, where it's a lot safer from a nuclear threat. But really, it's leading us to safety and prosperity. We'll get there. The people in charge at the time were really leading us there, it's too bad the greedy power-hungry idiots fought them every step of the way.

REMIXED AND REMASTERED in April 2020 using the new Mastering Room at the Lakeside Studio. Significantly higher quality.
Originally recorded in November 2004 using Cakewalk Sonar 4. Written, performed, produced and engineered by Geoff Allan at CIP's Calgary production facilities.
