The Child Inside
by Geoff L. Allan

Full Song

Open the door,
What do you see?
The little child inside of me.
Can you see?

Turn off the light,
And let him sleep,
The day's been long,
And oh, so cold... so cold.

He knows no wrong,
He knows no right,
He only lives to feel the light
Of day.

Tomorrow comes,
Another day,
And he can dream
Ah, ha...

He dreams and knows no sorrow
No lonely nights
His future has no boundaries,
No cause to fight
No reason to tell him
(I'm sorry)

Open the door,
What do you see?
It is the man I've grown to be
Can you see?

Turn on the light,
He'll face the day,
To him the day is just
One more, in a chain.

He does no wrong,
He seeks what's right,
The golden rule will guide his way
To the light.

And when the night,
Leaves him alone,
So he can sleep.
Ah ha...

He sleeps and knows no dreams
No carefree play
His future is uncertain
Without the child

No reason to hide away
The child inside.

This was actually written for my nephew during one of his extended stays at the Children's Hospital.

In fact, I wrote this the night Oprah interviewed Michael Jackson, and the one thing that struck me most about him in that interview was how childlike he was, and this is what came out of that.

Remastered in 2020 at the Color Media Productions Lakeside Studio.

From the album "The Castle".
Recorded on a Tascam 8-track cassette recorder at CMP's Kananaskis production facility, mastered to DAT, transferred to digital via analog out.
